I’ve never been very good at being successful on Medium. I had a couple of articles early on that earned a decent amount. I thought that would be the norm. It turns out the norm for me became making $10–15 a month. Not what I hoped, but enough to pay for my membership with a little left over. I was making a little money for something I was already doing for free. I considered that a win.

I did want to get better, so I resolved to be better about reading more Medium articles and interacting with other writers. I did OK for a bit. I didn’t see any big increases, but I was making more of an effort. I thought things would be trending in a better direction.

Most of the articles I write that get reads are about books. I was a librarian for years, ran book clubs, and did book promotions at schools, so this made sense. I even started a publication to house my book articles so people could read only those and skip the rest if they wanted. Eventually, I tried to recruit more writers, A few asked to be added. A few wrote one article, It seems to be back to just me now. I only have 20 or so followers at the publication, but my stories there still do better than others.
